Melvin Eugene Teel Sr, son of the late Joseph Raymond Teel and Mirtie Mae Chambers Teel, was born on Feb. 4, 1950 in Gideon and died at his residence in Bernie on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 at the age of 60.
Mr. Teel had worked at MFA Exchange and Bernie Farmers Fertilizer, both of Bernie. He was of the Baptist faith and a resident of Bernie.
He was united in marriage to Helen Ann Barnes on Sept. 23, 1968, at Bernie. She survives of the home in Bernie.
Other survivors include two sons, Melvin Eugene "Gene" Teel Jr. and wife Jenifer of Ligonier, Ind., and Stacy Don Teel of Springfield; two granddaughters, Makenzie and Kristina Teel; two brothers, Joseph Wayne Teel of Weatherford, Texas, and Gary Teel of Dexter; six sisters, Louise Winchester of Gideon, Wanda Truax of Bernie, Wilma Teets and Thelma Weathers, both of Dexter, Linda Thacker of Bernie, and Loretta Stanberry of St. Louis; and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death other than by his parents by one brother, William "Paul" Teel; three sisters, Martha Huddleson, Shirley Pickett and Dorothy Teel.
Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, from 4-6 p.m.
At 6 p.m. a memorial service will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gary Teel and Rev. Marlin Durham officiating.
