Cyril Edward Marchant, Sr., son of the late Arville Marchant and Fannie Woods Marchant, was born on June 20, 1924, at Pineville, Ark., and died in his residence at Dexter on Friday, March 26, 2010, at the age of 85.

Mr. Marchant was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Dexter where he served as deacon. He was ordained as a deacon in the West Flint General Baptist Cbhurch and also served in the Rural General Baptist Church in Flint, Mich., as well as other churches. He was a former truck driver for Blue Arrow-Douglas in Lansing, Mich., a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II., and a resident of Dexter.

He was united in marriage to Dorothy Bell on Nov. 6, 1948, at Piggott, Ark. Mrs. Marchant preceded him in death on June 22, 2009.

Survivors include two sons, Jeff Marchant and wife Jennifer of Topeka, Ind., and Ed Marchant of Dexter; three daughters, Anna Goodboo of Flint, Mich., Emma Razer and husband Wayne of Dexter, and Kathy Christian and husband Vernon of Dexter; one brother, Cecil Marchant of Edwardsburg, Mich.; three sisters, Delsie Hawley of Dexter, Velma Beardsley of White Pigeon, Mich., and Carol Hensley of Phoenix, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Carl David Marchant; two sons-in-law, Gene Goodboo and Ronald Masters.

Visitation will be held from 2:30-3 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at the First General Baptist Church in Dexter.

A memorial service will then be conducted at 3 p.m. in the First General Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Biggs officiating.
