Dorothy W. Evans, daughter of the late Brantley and Daisy Floyd Gilmer, was born on April 19, 1916 in Potts Camp, Miss. and died on April 3, 2010 in Collierville, Tenn. at the age of 93.

Dorothy was a Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church of Dexter since 1947. She was active in the various Mission organizations of the church, a member of the Dexter Hospital Auxiliary, P.E.O. and a resident of Dexter.

On July 1, 1933 she was united in marriage to Alton F. Evans in Bragg City. Mr. Evans preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 1990 after 57 years of marriage.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Sue Evans of Collierville, Tenn., Dale and Elenor Evans of Dexter, and Dean and Jane Evans of Germantown, Tenn.; by four grandchildren, Ginger Evans Dill and husband, Dee; Daryn Evans and wife, Rhonda; Tiffany Evans Wright and husband, Richard; and Kathy Evans Mize and husband, Jeff; by six great-grandchildren, Brian Dill and wife, Tonya, Daniel Evans, Lauren Evans, Carson Wright, Will Wright and Molly Mize; and by three great-great-grandchildren, Hannah Dill, Adam Dill and Mason Dill.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Alton F. Evans Jr.; by three brothers, Harland Gilmer, Jack Gilmer and James Gilmer and by one sister, Ruth Whistle.

Funeral services were held on Monday, April 5, 2010 at 3 p.m. in the First Baptist Church at Dexter with Rev. David Ripley, Rev. Richard Wright and Dr. Steve Easterwood officiating.

Interment followed in the Dexter Cemetery.

Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter was in charge of arrangements.
