Jene Darrell Kirby, son of Jene D. Kirby and Fern Smith Kirby of Bloomfield, was born July 15, 1950 in Sikeston, and died at his residence in Dexter on May 4, 2010 at the age of 59.

Mr. Kirby was a retired heavy equipment operator for the Elk Township and of the Christian faith. He was a member of the Bernie Masonic Lodge # 573, a member of the Dexter Eagles Lodge # 4062, a member of the Dexter Elk Lodge # 2439 , a member of the Essex Lions Club and a resident of Dexter.

Mr. Kirby was united in marriage to Judy Phillips on August 28, 1971 at Aquilla. Mrs. Kirby survives.

Besides his parents and wife, he is survived by two daughters, Kay Davis and husband Darren and Jene Ann McGill and husband Mike, all of Dexter; by one brother, Pat Kirby and wife Debbie of Dexter; by one sister, Cynthia Bowden and husband Raymond of North Little Rock, Ark.; by two grandchildren, Jessica Davis and Matney Davis and one great-grandchild, Addyson Davis; by Ernie Richie of Pensacola, Fla., who was raised in the home as a son.

Mr. Kirby was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ora Mae Triplett Smith Black and Charles Black; also by his paternal grandparents, Edgar Buck Kirby and Edith McFarren Kirby.

Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, May 6, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, May 7, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral chapel with Allen Edmonds officiating. Interment will follow in the Essex Cemetery.
