Sheridan Dowdy, son of the late George Washington Dowdy and Mary Zelma Florence Minton Dowdy, was born on April 8, 1918, in Dexter and died at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center on May 11, 2010 at the age of 92.
Mr. Dowdy was a veteran of the United States Army, retired from Williams Moving Company in Dexter, and the owner and operator of Dowdy's Body Shop in Dexter. He loved to hunt, fish, and listen to bluegrass music. Mr. Dowdy was a resident of Dexter.
On Nov. 26, 1938, he was united in marriage to Lucille Kincy in Piggott, Ark. Mr. and Mrs. Dowdy were united in marriage for 71 years, and Mrs. Dowdy survives of the home in Dexter.
Besides his wife, other survivors include two daughters, Jo Anne England and husband Garry of Dexter, and Sharon Sue Dowdy also of Dexter; two grandchildren, Shannon Dean England and wife Lori of Piedmont and Laura Anne England of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; one great-grandchild, Elizabeth Guan England of Piedmont.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Claude Trilby Dowdy, Wellman Dale Dowdy, and Gilbert Dowdy; and one sister, Lena Gertrude Baker.
Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 12, 2010.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 2 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Shane Mallard officiating.
Interment will follow in the Armstead Dowdy Cemetery near Dexter.
