Maxine Barber

Maxine Barber, daughter of the late Dan Courter and Willa Segraves Courter, was born on Jan. 1, 1922, at Reno, Ark., and died in her residence at Dexter on May 29, 2010, at the age of 88.

Mrs. Barber was a member of the Dexter Church Of Christ, a home-maker and resident of Dexter.

She was united in marriage to William Newt Barber on Feb. 19, 1944, at Piggott, Ark. Mr. Barber preceded her in death on March 15, 2009.

She is survived by three daughters, Sue Jones of Dexter, Brenda Nicolai of Jackson and Judy Barber of Kimmswick; one sister, Wanda Green of Wappapello; four grandchildren, Danny Jones, Randy Jones, Tammy Mantor and Tim Nicolai; four great-grandchildren, Rilee Jones, Samantha Jones, Jared Mantor and Blake Mantor; three special care-givers, Patsy Shlock, Kathy Ross and Linda Lou Boehls.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, William "Sonny" Barber; five brothers, Rufus Courter, Donald Courter, Billy Courter, W. D. Courter and Rondal Courter; three sisters, Wilma VanPool, Helen Harris and Aline Thomen.

Visitation was held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 2010.

Funeral services were then conducted at 2 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Dale Grissom officiating.

Interment followed in the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter.
