A.G. Kirby, son of the late James Elmer Kirby and Ava E. Still Kirby, was born on March 24, 1923 in Yuma, Tenn. and died at the McNairy County Health Care in Selmer, Tenn. on June 22, 2010 at the age of 87.

Mr. Kirby was a member of the Bethel Springs United Pentecostal Church in Bethel Springs, Tenn., a former employee of U.S. Steel, and a resident of Bethel Springs, Tenn., and was formerly from Dexter.

On Sept. 7, 1985 he was united in marriage to Beckie F. Kirby in Security, Colo. Mrs. Kirby preceded him in death on June 19, 1998. He was then united in marriage to Arlene Arnold on March 13, 2000 in Bloomfield. She survives of the home in Bethel Springs, Tenn.

Besides his wife, survivors include one son, Richard A. Kirby of San Diego, Calif.; one daughter, Beverly J. Kirby of San Diego, Calif.; by one step-son, Billy R. Arnold of Sikeston; three step-daughters, Ramona D. Teague of Arnold, Latina G. Shelby of Selmer, Tenn., and Dana L. Mitchelle of Bethel Springs, Tenn.; one sister, Beatrice Fullerton of Dexter; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Denver Kirby, Robert Kirby, Carlos Kirby, Oneal Kirby, Harold Kirby, and Tyron Kirby.

Visitation will take place at the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Dexter from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday June 24, 2010. Funeral services will then be conducted on Friday at 2 p.m. in the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Dexter with Rev. Jimmy Kirby and Rev. Jeff Young officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
