John F. McCollough, son of the late Francis McCollough and Hattie Sheehy McCollough, was born on Aug. 14, 1928, in Stoddard County and died in his residence at Dexter on July 6, 2010 at the age of 81.

Mr. McCollough was a member of the Dexter Church Of God, a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War with the 7th Infantry and was awarded a Bronze Star. He was former mechanic with Lynn Pontiac in Dexter, a former employee of the City of Dexter Street Department, a former volunteer fireman with the Dexter Fire Department, and a member of the Kenady-Hanks American Legion Post 59.

He was united in marriage to Ester Eaton on March 19, 1949 at Piggott, Ark. Mrs. McCollough survives of the home in Dexter.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Allan and Leda McCollough of Dexter; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Bob Ellis of Dexter; two brothers, Howard McCollough of Dudley and Kenneth McCollough of Dexter; one sister, Ruth Ann McCollough of Dexter; two grandchildren, Jessica Danille McCollough of St. Louis and Monica Leigh McCollough of Dexter.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred McCollough and Bud McCollough; two sisters, Dorothy Mathews and Joy Agnes McCollough.

Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 1-3 p.m. on Friday, July 9, 2010.

Funeral services will then be conducted at 3 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Phil Warren and Rev. Leonard Madigan officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery with full military honors.
