Looks like Coach Becker got caught looking at a plane flying by pulling a banner that read "FREE BUFFET"
To all the Bearcat football parents: Your son is in good hands under Coach Pixley's leadership. Your young man will not just be a better athlete under his guidance on the field, but you may just find that your son is just a little more tolerable off the field as well. I say that somewhat in jest, but I also know first-hand what Coach Pixley expects of his players. He does this job the right way. Be proud to be a Bearcat football parent.
Keep up the good work, Coach.
Well said Mike O. Verfelt!
I agree. Dexter should be proud of its football program. Both Coach Pixley and Becker are good people with a strong history tied to Bearcat athletics. Maybe we could get Lee Greenwood to sing a song about it. Da Da...ching. Thank you and don't forget to tip your waitress!
Layne, you and vepeverett are so negative. Mike O. Verfelt types something really nice on here about Coach Pixley and the boys and you guys throw darts. Vepeverett is always on here making fun of fat people. He must be a bean pole and not have to worry about over-indulging or something. As for Lee Greenwood, God Bless him.
I had Becker as a P.E. teacher in middle school. He was quite a jerk back then.
Yeah...nobody likes Coach Becker. He wasn't a very good pitcher either.
Lets hear what he did to you x. I mean, if he made you get off your lazy butt and do something, or if you hated PE, or if you were a smart alec know it all punk, or if you were just a typical 6,7, or 8th grader who was too cool for mental school....he may have had reason.
The scars must not be healed up all the way.
Exceptional photos!! Congratulations, Jerry!
Sure would like to bring back that '70-'71 football team...right Hoon? Coach Clyde Vaughn and Coach Chuck Koerner. Clyde is a 3 star General with the National Guard now....his son is a Major in the Marine Corps and I think he is going to be one of the lead pilots on the Joint Strike Fighter.
The sportswriter for the Statesman Messenger was a Wide Receiver on that Bearcat team..Jerry J. He and Mike Ward.
Bearcat, Coach/General Vaughn still makes it back to Dexter occasionally. Was in a couple of months ago for the 18FORELIFE golf tournament. Have to say he hasn't slowed down much. Still has a stare that would make you wet your pants... His son was also a Top Gun instructor. You knew his boy would end up being one of the best of the best.
Mayer72...General Vaughn is now retired. And yes, I think it would be great to get the 2nd best football team in DHS history together for a reunion sometime. Good luck getting Dexter Schools to embrace the idea of recognizing and celebrating any of its outstanding teams from the past.
Hoon.....That is spelled Mayor72....thank you.
Buddy Lawrence was one of the top cross country guys in the state back then ('68 - '72) Not sure if he kept running in college....maybe he would initiate something.
Mayer72...Butty doesn't run anymore. So how did he do in the State Competition back in 68-72? Dexter hasn't had many outstanding teams, but you would think they have had NONE with the lack of effort to recognize any from the past.
Sorry Hoon...he wasn't as memorable to me as the football team was that went to State, and had their a**es janded to them by Chillicothe in the championship game at Marshall. My best memory was the playoff game in Dexter, on a Saturday afternoon, when we beat Lutheran South by 3 points. I think it was 29-26 (but not sure). Chillicothe's boys had like a 41 game winning streak going and were unbeatable. Their defensive line averaged 250 pounds....(corn fed)
I am now curious how Buddy really did at state competition back then. I was on the team for awhile too......but my cigarettes put me at a disadvantage. :-) Buddy used to run 12-16 miles per DAY. That included 4-6 miles BEFORE school in the morning. Oh he*l no.
Yeah.....
