Salena Garner, daughter of the late Jewell Evans and Eva Crawford Evans, was born on April 25, 1933, at Kennett and died at her residence in Dexter on Aug. 24, 2010, at the age of 77.

Mrs. Garner was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Dexter, a former maintenance clerk with Arvin Automotive in Dexter and a resident of Dexter.

She was united in marriage to James Garner on Jan. 24, 1981. Mr. Garner survives of the home in Dexter.

Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, Douglas Sturgeon of Dexter; two daughters, Pattie Backfisch of Danville, Ky., and Shelly McDaniel of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Evans.

Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:45 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Graveside services will follow at the Bloomfield Cemetery with Rev. Lonny Mittag officiating.

Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter is in charge of arrangements.
