Lila Campbell Dowdy, daughter of the late Albert Manning Phegley and Mary Vallanti Phegley was born on Dec.1, 1928 at Vanduser and died in the Missouri Southern Health-care at Dexter on Sept. 2, 2010 at the age of 81.

Mrs. Dowdy was a member of the Bridge Church Of Christ near Dexter, and a former apartment manager and bookkeeper in St. Louis. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Dowdy on Nov. 19, 1998 at Dexter. Mr. Dowdy preceded her in death on June 22, 2009.

She is survived by three sons, Andrew Wheeler of Waverly, Virginia, Allen Wheeler of Dexter and Stan Winchester of Wellington, Fla.: by two sister-in-laws, Mildred Phegley and Rosie Phegley: by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Alvin Lambert: by one daughter, Tomye Wenthe: by five brothers, Dennis Phegley, Willard Phegley, Dempsey Phegley, Rev. Jewell Phegley and Napoleon Phegley: by three sisters, Violet Costello, Ruby Gregory and Ida Bell Perry.

Visitation will take place at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010. Funeral services will then be conducted at 2 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ron Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Hills Cemetery at Morley.
