Jesse Lavern Christian, son of the late Winford Dudley and Maude Ann Menley Christian, was born in Catron on June 13, 1931, and died at the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau on Sept. 17, 2010, at the age of 79.

Mr. Christian had lived in Parma before moving to near Dexter in 1980. He moved to Bloomfield three years ago. He was a retired farmer.

On April 4, 1954, he was married to Martha Jo Warren in Piggott, Ark. She preceded him in death on Sept. 29, 1994.

Surviving are three sons, Don Christian of Dexter, Vernon Christian of Bernie, and Thomas Christian of Hollister; three daughters, Peggy Harris and Judy Sadler, both of Bloomfield, and Norma Christian of Whitehall, Ark.; 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Leek of Burton, Mich., and Lillian Orton of Dexter. Other relatives and friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lotes Lee, Earl and Owen Christian, three sisters, Annie Thorne, Wanda Hamilton and Flora Williams.

Visitation was held on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, from 5-8 p.m. at Watkins & Sons Funeral Service in Dexter.

Services were conducted on Monday, Sept. 20, 2010, at 2 p.m. in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter, Missouri with the Rev. Don Cox of Poplar Bluff officiating.

Burial followed in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter is in charge of arrangements.
