John W. Harty, 72, of Dexter, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter.
Mr. Harty was born Oct. 19, 1937, at Puxico. He had lived in Dexter for 42 years.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Dexter, Jaycees, Sigma Phi Epsilon, a 1955 graduate of Puxico High School, a graduate of Missouri School of Mines at Rolla, a member of The Experimental Aircraft Association, a Sunday school teacher and president of The Missouri State Highway Association.
Mr. Harty was retired as an engineer with the Missouri Department of Transportation.
He enjoyed basketball and was a writer for the State Highway Association Newsletter.
On June 24, 1961, he was married to Bonnie Gill at Puxico, and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, John Harty, Jr. of Cabot, Ark., and Jim Harty of Fort Myers, Fla.; one brother, Norman B. Harty of Dexter; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at First Baptist Church in Puxico.
The funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, in the First Baptist Church in Puxico with Phil Bray, Wiley McGee and Jim McGee officiating.
Interment will follow in Rock Hill Cemetery.
