Ethel A. Metcalf, daughter of the late Lige and Laria Hadcock Kelso, was born in Arab on June 8, 1909, and died at the Golden Living Center in Bloomfield, on Sept. 26, 2010, at the age of 101.

Mrs. Metcalf lived in Bloomfield all of her life. She was a member of the Mt. Pisgah General Baptist Church.

On July 24, 1926, she was married to James Otto Metcalf in Ardeola. He preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 1991.

Surviving are four sons, J. D. Metcalf of Bloomfield, Duane and Lawson Metcalf both of Dexter, and Dwight Metcalf of Bell City; three daughters, Ilean Hatle of Benton, Ark., Kay Goggin of St. Louis, and Willene Sturgeon of Bloomfield; 24 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. Other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Cleo Locke and Mary Lee Sparger; two brothers; and two sisters.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, after 10 a.m. at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, at 12 noon at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield with the Rev. Bob Bradford of Advance officiating.

Interment will be in the Gravel Hill Cemetery near Bloomfield with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield in charge of arrangements.
