Rev. James J. Davis

Rev. James J. Davis, son of the late James Davis and Eva "Maggie" Wiseman Davis, was born on July 3, 1924, in Gideon and died on Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter at the age of 86.

Mr. Davis was a retired Methodist minister of 26 years in Southeast Missouri, member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Poplar Bluff, veteran of the United State Air Force, and a resident of Bloomfield.

On July 27, 1950, he was united in marriage to Helen Eaton in Piggott, Ark. Mrs. Davis survives of the home in Bloomfield.

Other survivors include one son, Charles Roberts and wife Ota of Dexter; one sister, Ruby Davis of Jonesboro, Ark.; two grandchildren, Shelley Roberts-Halford and husband Tim of Covington, Tenn., and Ryan Roberts and wife Heather of Dexter; also three great-grandchildren, Charley Morgan Halford and Christian Aubrey Halford, both of Covington, Tenn., and Kolby Roberts of Dexter.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Lloyd Davis.

Visitation was held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, at 1 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter with Rev. Vernon Kneir officiating. Interment followed at the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter.
