Joan Elizabeth Appleton Lewis, daughter of the late Lucian Appleton and Mary Tarrants Appleton, was born on Feb. 9, 1952 at Morehouse and died on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010 at her residence in Dexter at the age of 58.
Mrs. Lewis was a homemaker, had been a cook and custodian for Bernie Public Schools for over 13 years, and was a member of the First Pentecostal Church of Bernie.
She was united in marriage to Maxwell Lee Lewis on July 1, 1972 in Morehouse. Rev. Lewis remains in the home in Dexter.
Survivors include two sons, Gregory Maxwell Lewis of Dexter and Lonnie Dale Lewis of Anna, Ill.; three daughters, Melanie Beth Liford of Kennett, Tera Lynn Wells of Marble Hill, and Laura Gail Payne of Bernie; five brothers, Roland Appleton of Bertrand, Larry Appleton of Sikeston, Ronnie Appleton of Oran, Leon Appleton of Brownsburg, Ind., and Bruce Appleton of Bernie; three sisters, Shirley Kersey of Morehouse, Sandra Odle of Bonne Terre, and Margaret Moffitt of High Point, N.C.; 15 grandchildren, Corey Lipford, Dusty Lewis, Mandy Ivie, Macie Wells, Victoria Liford, Riley Wells, Kaeli Wells, Valerie Liford, Dakota Lewis, Benjamin Avery Lewis, Jake Paine, Luke Paine and Carleigh Lewis; one great-grandson, Brendan Ivie.; and other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held at the First Pentecostal Church of rural Bernie on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, from 5-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010, at the First Pentecostal Church of rural Bernie at 2 p.m.
Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.
