Emory "Barney" Shaffer

Emory "Barney" Shaffer, son of the late Booker T. and Madge Edith Shaffer, was born on Oct. 29, 1932 in Pascola and died on Wednes-day, Oct. 27, 2010, at the Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau at the age of 77.

Mr. Shaffer attended the First General Baptist Church in Bloomfield, served in the United States Air Force, was a retired mechanic at Allen Christian in Dexter and was a resident of Dexter. He also loved the Stars and Stripes Museum and gave freely of his time to their services.

On March 13, 1956 he was united in marriage to Bonnie Elizabeth Carmen in Las Vegas, Nev. Mrs. Shaffer preceded him in death on Jan. 17, 1994.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in law, Mark and Robyn Shaffer of Dexter; one daughter and son-in law, Melanie and David Peacock of Bloomfield; four grandchildren, Dena Elizabeth Shaffer, Danielle Nicole Whitaker, Tony Allen Shaffer and Marcy Eryn Shaffer; and by one great-grandchild, AmberLyn Mae Whitaker.

Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kevin Eskew officiating. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.

The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Stars and Stripes Museum in Bloomfield. Envelopes will be provided.
