Velta Lee Gough

Velta Lee Gough daughter of the late Tom W. Whitehead and Treasa L. Stafford Whitehead was born in Stoddard County on March 24, 1925, and died in the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at the age of 85.

Mrs. Gough was a homemaker and a resident of Dexter.

She was united in marriage to Chester A. Gough in Dexter, Mo., on July 1, 1941. Mr. Gough preceded his wife in death on Jan. 8, 1988.

Other survivors include one son, Gary A. Gough of Dexter; two daughters, Linda Sue Heisler of Tampa Bay, Fla., and Janis Marie Jackson of Kidder, Mo.; three sisters, Edna R. Williams of Dexter, Mo., Wanda L. Gough of Flint, Mich., and Delta M. Ivy of Dexter, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and by two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death other than by her parents and her husband, by two daughters, Patsy A. Smith and Annis Lee Clark: and one brother, Avery H. Whitehead.

Visitation will be held at Rainey~Mathis Funeral Chapel in Bernie from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010. Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey~Mathis Funeral Chapel at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, with Rev. Joe Ogelvie officiating. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery. Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
