Elizabeth Elsie Johnson

Elizabeth Elsie Johnson was born on April 17, 1918 to Adolph and Hilde (nee Wagner) Thies. She was born in Poplar Bluff, Mo., and was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church.

Elizabeth was married to Harmon H. Johnson on Aug. 17, 1949 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. They began their married life together in Malden, Mo. before moving to Dexter in 1952. Harmon preceded her in death on Dec. 13, 1999. Elizabeth died on Dec. 3, 2010 at her home in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Elizabeth is survived by three daughters, Janis Devlin of Littleton, Colo.; Rebecca Dickerson of Morton, Ill.; Brenda Johnson of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Dorothy Massey of Poplar Bluff, Mo. and Esther Burns of Osawatomie, Kan.

Elizabeth and Harmon were charter members of Faith Lutheran Church in Dexter, Mo. Elizabeth was active for many years in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Altar Guild, and as a Sunday School teacher.

Visitation will take place at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, Mo. from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, 2010. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Poplar Bluff with Rev. Gary R. Hoffstetter officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
