Ruth Virginia Lewis

Ruth Virginia Lewis, daughter of the late Chester and Ina Turner Fowler, was born on June 8, 1923 in Brownwood, Mo. and died on Jan. 2, 2011 at her residence in Dexter at the age of 87.

Mrs. Lewis was baptized in the Christian faith, a homemaker and loved to sew and make quilts. She was an assembly line worker for Purolator Filter Company in Dexter, and she was a resident of Dexter.

On Jan. 24, 1942 she was united in marriage to Charlie Lewis in Acorn Ridge. Mr. Lewis preceded her in death on March 28, 1982.

Mrs. Lewis is survived by two daughters and sons-in law, Ruth Ann and Dennis Hoggard of Dexter, and Charlene and Terry Bowman of Campbell, Mo.; by one brother, Miles Leon Fowler of Dexter; by three grandchildren, Douglas and wife Susie Barnfield of Red Bud, Ill., Susan and husband David Sells of Piedmont, Mo. and Aaron and wife Dianne Woolard of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; by seven great-grandchildren, Kady and Kelly Barnfield of Red Bud, Ill., Sara and Sally Sells of Piedmont and Cyrus, Olivia and Lana Woolard of Cape Girardeau.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Chester Fowler and by three sisters, Mary McGuire, Glenda Thompson and Georgia Montgomery.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 4, 2010 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel. Interment followed in the Dexter Cemetery.
