Dennis Backfisch, 63, of Ozark, Mo. died suddenly on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011, at the Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Mo. Dennis was born Aug. 20, 1947 in Cape Girardeau, Mo., the son of Charles and Jeannette (Boyer) Backfisch.
As a young man, Dennis lived in Dexter and worked at the Missouri Department of Transportation. He was active in the Stoddard County Civil Defense and was an officer of the Dexter Jaycees. Dennis was also a charter member of the Knights of Columbus in Dexter.
On Sept. 21, 1985, Dennis married the love of his life, Mary Jo Reed-Boyles and gained two daughters, Kristi Allstun and Tammy Boyles, to complete his family.
Dennis moved his family to Ozark, Mo. in 1993. There he was an active member of the Elks Lodge, and he finished his 37-year career with MoDOT.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Mary Jo; his daughters, Kristi and Tammy; his four grandchildren, Ashley, James, William and Madison; a sister, Debbie; and countless friends and relatives.
Though Dennis left us too soon, he lived a full and wonderful life. Remember Dennis with a smile and toast him often.
Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, from 6-8 p.m.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Armstead-Dowdy Cemetery in Dexter with Father David Dohogne officiating. Interment will follow in the Armstead-Dowdy Cemetery.
The family has requested donations be made to Least of These or Freedoms Rest.
