T.J. McFarlen, son of the late Thomas Jefferson "Jeff" McFarlen and Della Temples, Mr. McFarlen, was born on Sept. 27, 1922, in Dexter and died on Monday, Jan. 24, 2011 at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter at the age of 88.

Mr. McFarlen was a farmer, a mechanic for International Harvester and John Deere Worley Implement. He had the longest membership at the First General Baptist Church in Dexter and was a resident of Dexter.

On Feb. 4, 1947 he was united in marriage to Jean Jennings at Dexter. Mrs. McFarlen preceded him in death on June 24, 2010.

He is survived by three sons, Maurice McFarlen, Larry Gene McFarlen and Gary Dean McFarlen, all of Dexter; by six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife and parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Oneita Tracer.

Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011 from 5-8 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, at 11 a.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Biggs officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
