John Allen Hartness

John Allen Hartness, age 61, of Campbell, Mo., formerly of Dermott, Ark., died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011 at Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo. He was born on April 8, 1949 in Dermott, Ark., the son of Elmer F. Hartness and Martha Alexander Hartness. He attended school in Dermott and was in the graduating class of 1967. He was a grain elevator manager for Cargill retiring after 38 years. Before he retired, he worked for the New Madrid facility for 15 years. During his retirement, he worked as a sales representative for Schaffer Oil, and he and his wife, Gay, owned and operated a cutting horse breeding operation in Campbell, Mo. He was a member of the Temple Baptist Church in Dermott.

John was preceded in death by his father, Elmer F. Hartness. Survivors are his wife, Gay Dunn Hartness, of Campbell, Mao.; his mother, Martha Alexander Hartness of Monroe, La.; a daughter, Kathy Jo Gregg of Dermott, AR.; two step-sons, Eban F. Kea of Ayden, N.C. and Jonathan A. Kea of Durham, N.C.; two brothers, Elmer "J.R." Hartness of Dermott, Ark., and Bobby Hartness of Little Rock, Ark.; a sister, Diane Thompson of Monroe, La.; one granddaughter, Ashley Hartness of Dermott, Ark.; and a grandson, Braxton Kea of Ayden, N.C.

Visitation was held at Bishop Funeral Home in Lake Village, Ark., on Friday, Jan. 14, 2011.

Services were in Dermott, Ark., at Temple Baptist Church in Dermott, Ark., and graveside services were at Dermott, Ark., Cemetery on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011.
