James Earl Skelton, son of the late James Melvin and Mollie Cornelia Walker Skelton, was born in Bloomfield, Mo., on Dec. 12, 1923, and died at the John J. Pershing V.A. Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo., on Feb. 5, 2011, at the age of 87.
Mr. Skelton had lived in Bloomfield all of his life. He attended the Bloomfield Assembly of God Church. He had been a cattle farmer all of his life and was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during World War II.
On Dec. 18, 1954, he was married to Ruby Pauline Matthews in Hernando, Miss.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby Pauline Skelton of Bloomfield; two sons, Larry Parker of Dexter, Mo., and Garry Parker of Bloomfield; seven grandchildren, Chad, Jason, Heather and Matthew Parker, Jennifer Whatley, Casey Williams and Matt Banken; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Amanda Smith of Dexter. Other relatives and many friends also survive.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, from 5-8 p.m. at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, at 11 a.m. in the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
Interment will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home of Bloomfield in charge of arrangements. Full military honors will be provided by Missouri Military Honors and American Legion Post 59 of Dexter.
