Charles R. "Tinker" Tilley, Sr.

Charles R. "Tinker" Tilley, Sr., the son of the late John Henry and Vevie Dillard Drye Tilley, was born in Sherrill, Ark., on Aug. 17, 1946 and died at the Missouri Southern Health Care in Dexter on Feb. 11, 2011, at the age of 64.

Charles had worked in the St. Louis area until moving to Essex, Mo. He was a veteran of the US Army and had served in Korea. He was employed as an over-the-road truck driver for many years. He also enjoyed fishing and camping. He was a member of the Kennedy Hanks American Legion Post 59.

On May 13, 1966 he was married to Sharon Moore in Clines Island, Mo.

Surviving are his wife, Sharon Tilley of Essex, Mo.; two sons, Bill Rutledge (Rhonnie) of Diehlstadt, Mo., and Charles "Chuck" Tilley Jr (Donna) of Essex; two daughters, Cheryl McClure (Billy) of Bloomfield, Mo., Lisa Taylor (John) of Dexter, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Joshua (Regina) Rutledge, Charlie (Ryan)Decker, Chad Tilley, Casey (Jamie) Vincent, Amber Tilley, BayleeTaylor, Rylee Taylor; two step-grandchildren, Tyler and Zack Thurman; one great-grandchild, Karter Vincent; six brothers, J.W. Tilley and Robert Tilley, both of Bloomfield, Mo., Larry Tilley of Essex, Mo., Kenneth Tilley of Van Buren, Mo., Dale Tilley of Morehouse, Mo., William Merrick of Summersville, Fla.; three sisters, Floy Jean Robey and Katherine Hopkins, both of Bloomfield, Mo., and Gale Bess of Dexter, Mo. Many other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl "Pete" Tilley and Gerald "Shorty" Tilley; and three sisters, Maxine Robey, Lula Jackson and Lenora Bost.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, from 5-8 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Mo.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at 1 p.m. in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter, Mo.

Interment will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo. with full military honors conducted by the Stoddard County Veterans Honor Team. Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Mo., is in charge of arrangements.
