Mavis Marie Britton
Mavis Marie Britton, daughter of the late Loran Tanner and Elva Atteberry Tanner, was born on Nov. 22, 1939 at Gideon and died in the residence of her son on Feb. 21, 2011 at the age of 71.

Mrs. Britton was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Dexter, a home-maker, a former waitress with the Hickory House Restaurant in Dexter, a former employee of the International Hat Company in Dexter and a resident of Dexter. She enjoyed crocheting, making afghans and lap quilts for the nursing home.

She was united in marriage to Ivan Arthur Britton on April 1, 1959 at Clines Island, Mo. Mr. Britton preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 1987.

She is survived by three sons, Gary Britton, Steven Britton, Kevin Britton and wife Lisa, all of Dexter; two daughters, June Cochran of Sikeston, Jeannie Henson and husband Harold of Bloomfield; a daughter-in-law, Kimberly Tanner of Gypsy; one brother, Bill Tanner and wife Judy of Sikeston; by one sister, Kay Davison of Dexter; by two sisters-in law, Dona Sue Tanner of Dexter and Jessie Tanner of Bloomfield; by 12 grandchildren, Mark Tanner, David Wayne Ellison, Jerry Cochran, Charity Cochran, Amy Haas, Shelly Henson, Aron Henson, Selena Britton, Nathan Britton, Sara Gentry, Michael Britton and Krista Fields; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, David Houston Tanner and Billy Arthur Britton; by three brothers, Loran Tanner, Walter Tanner and Don Tanner; by one sister, Betty Mason, and by two brothers-in-law, Roy Davison and Gerald Mason.

Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. On Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Danny Collins officiating. Interment will follow in the Essex Cemetery.
