James Howard Rhoades, son of the late Garland Rhoades and Alice Summers Rhoades was born on March 27, 1915 in Scotland, Ark. and died in the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Mo. on Feb. 24, 2011 at the age of 95.
Mr. Rhoades was formerly an employee as a custodian at the Ferguson Florissant R#2 School Distract. He was also a retired farmer, and a resident of Dexter.
On Aug. 26, 1938 he was united in marriage to Ruby Thelma Frazier in Scotland, Ark. Mrs. Rhoades preceded him in death on Sept. 10, 2005.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Sherry Duncan; by four brothers, Virgil Rhoades, Lonnie Rhoades, Orville Rhoades, and Herb Rhoades; by five sisters, Faye Jordan, Eula Meeler, Mary Thompson, Ester Walls, and Van Hartsell.
Survivors include two grandsons, James Duncan and Tim Duncan; two great-grandchildren; also many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from5-8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011. Funeral services will then be conducted on Monday, Feb. 28, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Mike Kohlbaker officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
