Leroy VanMatre

Leroy VanMatre, son of the late Thomas A. VanMatre and Rose Sanders Vanmatre, was born on April 5, 1933 in Arab, Mo., and died at his residence in Dexter, Mo., on March 20, 2011 at the age of 77.

Leroy was a retired welder and sheet metal fabricator in St. Louis, Mo. He was also an avid fisherman, a beloved husband and loving father and grandfather. Mr. VanMatre was of the Baptist faith and a resident of Dexter.

He was united in marriage to Reta Sue Williams on June 7, 1952 in Piggott, Ark. Mrs. VanMatre survives of the home in Dexter.

Besides his wife, other survivors include three sons, W. Lee VanMatre of Bloomfield, Mo., Gerry E. VanMatre of Lake Wappapello, Mo., and Kenneth D. VanMatre of Advance, Mo.; two daughter,s Terry L. Lello of South Bend, Ind., and Karen A. VanMatre of Dexter; one brother, Bob VanMatre of Springfield, Mo.; one sister, Helen Berrong of Troy, Mo.; also 16 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Sara Renee Boyer; three brothers, Horace VanMatre, Everett VanMatre, and Elza VanMatre.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at the Chalk Bluff Cemetery in Dexter with Rev. Jim Hoyt officiating. Services are conducted by the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.
