John Thomas "J.T." Becking, son of the late Joseph George Becking and Columbia Belle Cook Becking, was born in Bernie, Mo., on June 18, 1922 and died at his residence in Bernie on May 11, 2011 at the age of 88.

Mr. Becking was a United State Navy veteran having served in World War II, was a farmer and had attended the Bernie First Baptist Church.

He was united in marriage to Margery Estella Miller in Piggott, Ark., on Nov. 29, 1946. Mrs. Becking survives of their home in Bernie.

Other survivors include one son, Barry Lee Becking of Dumas, Ark.; two daughters, Jeannie Burchell and husband Dennis of Piggott, and Judith Hargett and husband Steve of Jackson, Mo.; five grandchildren, Beth Scott, Lori Hartwig, Jason Becking, Eric Becking and Jonathan Becking; 10 great-grandchildren, Kristen Scott, Logan Hartwig, Caleb Hartwig, Dylan Hartwig, Adelaide Becking, Jack Becking, Kylee Becking, Wayne Burrage, Bianca Becking and Solie Becking; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death other than by his parents by four brothers, Vaughn Becking, Victor Becking, Joseph, Jr. and Glendale Becking; two sisters, Vivian Summers and one sister in infancy.

A graveside service will be conducted on Friday, May 13, 2011 starting at 11 a.m. in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo., with Rev. Susan Marner-Sides officiating. Interment will follow.

Donations may be made to Missouri State Veterans Cemetery or the Bernie United Methodist Church.
