She was the third of five children and was born in Taskee, Mo. on Dec. 13, 1924 to Roy and Grace Alexander. Mrs. Black accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Butler County.
On Sept. 3, 1940 she was united in marriage to James Delbert Black in Hendrickson, Mo. Mrs. Black made a loving home for her husband, children, and grandchildren for over 70 years.
Mr. Black survives of the home near Poplar Bluff.
Mrs. Black was the mother of two sons, Jerry Black, who preceded her in death, and Jim Black of Miller, Mo.; two daughters, Jean Harget of Waller, Texas, and Terry Temples and husband Gary of Dexter, Mo. She was also the grandmother of 13 grandchildren - Greg Dodd, Steve Harget, Cheryl Guidry, Misty Wagner, Mickey Black, Phillip Black, Jarrod Black, Quentin Black, Ashley Schuerenberg, and Jill Temples. Three grandchildren, Ronald, Connie, and Sharon Harget, preceded her in death. She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other loved ones and many friends.
Mrs. Black was preceded in death by four sisters and is survived by one brother, Harold Alexander of Mojave, Calif., and one daughter-in-law, Brenda Black of Collinsville, Ill.
Visitation will begin Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Cotrell Funeral Chapel.
The funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Hwy W in Butler County with the Rev. Robert Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family would like for you to join them in a meal at the church following the services.
