John Henry "Jay" Petty, Jr., was born April 3, 1974, in Hoopston, Ill., and died Sunday, May 22, 2011, from injuries sustained in the Joplin tornado. He was the son of John Henry Petty, Sr., and Linda Sue Watson Petty.

He graduated from Richland High School in 1992. Jay moved to the Noeosho area five years ago and worked at Jasper Products in Joplin for the past five years. He spent two years serving the Army Rangers. He loved God, his country, and spending time with his famiily. He also loved to hunt, fish and play the guitar. He had a bad, Iris Road.

He is survived b y his parents John Henry Petty, Sr., and Linda Sue Petty of Grayridge, Mo.; his fiancÚ Lisa Hartman of Neosho, Mo.; his two daughters, Hannah Petty and Hayli Petty, both of Dexter; his fiancÚ's children, Leif Larson and Jedidiah Larson, both of the home; two brothers, Dallas Petty and his wife Ashley of Malden, Mo., and Nicholas Petty, of Grayridge; and one sister, Alisha Hagy and her husband Johnny of Essex, Mo.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at the Clark Funeral Home in Neosho, Mo. Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2011, at Bradshaw Chapel in Malden with Rev. Richard Blagg officiating.

Interment will follow at Dexter Cemeter with military rites.
