Clarence Houston Smith, Sr.

Clarence Houston Smith, Sr., son of the late C. W. Smith and Hattie Hull Smith, was born on Feb. 11, 1924 at Bernie and died in his residence near Bernie on June 3, 2011 at the age of 87.

Mr. Smith was a farmer and resident of rural Bernie.

He was united in marriage to Geneva Viola Shelton on June 4, 1949 at Clay County, Ark. Mrs. Smith preceded him in death on Aug. 22, 2010.

Survivors include five sons, Leonard Edward Smith of Bernie, Clarence Houston Smith Jr., Jerry Wade Smith, Elmer Milton Smith and Delmar Shelton Smith, all of Dexter; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Michelle Smith; one great-grandson; two sisters, Lois Fay Buck and Fairy Riley.

Visitation was held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, June 6, 2011.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m.. on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Marcus Geuin officiating. Interment followed in the Bernie Cemetery.
