Robert L. Stuart, son of the late Walter and Roosevelt McGowen Stuart, was born in Stoddard County, Mo., on Dec. 13, 1924, and died at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo., on July 9, 2011, at the age of 86.
He had lived in Dudley, Mo., all his life. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Dexter. He was a member of the VFW Post in Puxico, Mo. He worked for the US Postal Service for over 35 years in Dudley. He had served in the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II.
On May 1, 1948, he was married to Audrey Caldwell in Poplar Bluff, Mo. She preceded him in death on Feb. 7, 1999.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Richard Long of Dudley, Mo.; two grandchildren and spouses, Richie and Emily Long of Glencoe, Ala., Denise and Tim Adams of Cordova, Tenn.; two great-grandchildren, Braxton Long of Glencoe, Ala., and Ian Adams of Cordova, Tenn. Other relatives and many friends also survive. He was preceded in death by two brothers Eugene Stuart and Walter Stuart Jr.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, from 5-8 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Mo.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at 1 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter, Mo.,., with Carl Suddeath of Herndon, Ky., officiating.
Interment will be in the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter, Mo., with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Mo., in charge of arrangements.
