Edison Dale Gibbs

Edison Dale Gibbs, son of the late Edgar and Odessa Stafford Gibbs, was born in Bell City, Mo., on Dec. 22, 1925, and died at his home in Oxly, Mo. on July 24, 2011, at the age of 85.

He retired from the U.S. Navy after 30 plus years as a Gunners Mate Chief Master, serving during World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War. He worked and retired as maintenance supervisor for Morristown Hamlin Hospital, Morristown, Tenn. Mr. Gibbs was a Mason, Shriner, and Scottish Rite.

On Oct. 26 1946, he was married to Doris Weaver in Corning, Ark.

Surviving are his wife, Doris of Oxly, Mo.; two sons, Michael Gibbs of Spartanburg, S.C., and Bradley Gibbs of Doniphan, Mo.; two brothers, Roger Gibbs of Bloomfield, Mo., and Wayne Gibbs of Van Buren, Mo.; one sister, Wilda Ruth Cox of El Paso, Texas; four grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one son, Patrick Stephen Gibbs; one grandson, Michael Steven Gibbs; one granddaughter, Melissa Ann Gibbs; and two brothers; Don and Glen Gibbs.

Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 26 , 2011, at 10 a.m. at the Bloomfield City Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Stafford of Jonesboro, Ark. officiating.

Interment will be in the Bloomfield City Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo. with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Mo. in charge of arrangements.
