Hurshel L. Cossey, age 90, died Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Miner Nursing Center in Sikeston.
He was born May 16, 1921 in Clinton, Ark. to the late Obie and Lillian (Godfrey) Cossey. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was then a self-employed farmer before retiring.
He is survived by two sons, Chester O'Neal Cossey of Bloomfield, Mo. and Gary Cossey of Dexter, Mo.; seven daughters, Carol McLard, Kathy Seals, Connie Hensley and Judy Killian, all of Sikeston, Barbara Renfro of Bloomfield, Sharon Aters of East Prairie, and Nona Odum of Kennett; two brothers, Dee Cossey of the state of Washington and Roy Cossey of Gideon; 25 grandchildren; 42 great- grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Katherine (Kellick) Cossey.
He later married Verdie Qualls who also preceded him.
Also preceding him in death were one son, Harlan Ray Cossey; one grandson, Bradley Clenney; and three brothers, Garner Cossey, Lloyd Cossey and Clifford Cossey.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 28, 2011, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Ponder Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held Friday, July 29, 2011, at 1 p.m. The Rev. Tony Rhynes and Rev. Jimmy Kirby will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield with full military honors.
