Mrs. Totten attended the First Christian Church in Dexter, was an educator for 34 years in Missouri Public Schools with 29 years in the Dexter Public System. She was a charter member of the Dexter Community Teachers Association, a lifetime member of both the Missouri State Teachers Association and the Retired Teachers of Missouri. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers of Stoddard County, the Dexter Hospital Auxiliary and the Friends of the Dexter Library.
The Montogomery Scholarship was named in honor of Mrs. Totten.
She was united in marriage to Glenn H. Totten on Jan. 2, 1942 at Jackson. Mr. Totten preceded her in death on April 28, 1993.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law; Glen and Nancy Totten of Ormond Beach, Fla. and Roger and Allison Totten of Melbourne, Ark.; by one brother, Glendall Stout of Jefferson City; by five grandchildren, Kyle Totten, Kendra Totten, Grant Totten, Craig Totten and Matthew Totten; by four great-grandchildren, Chris-topher Totten, Caroline Totten, Audrey Totten and Sarah Katharine Totten; by one great-great-granddaughter, Isabella Totten.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Earl Stout; by two sisters, Othella Mildred Stout Mathenie and Georgenia Lorene Stout.
Visitation was held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 19, 2011. Graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011 at the Chalk Bluff Cemetery with Rev. Tom Stafford officiating.
