Military rites will be conducted for John A. Vancil on Oct. 7, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the site of his parents' graves in the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter, Mo.

John served in the 64th Field Artillery attached to the 25th Infantry Division in the Southern Philippines in Luzon.

He was awarded the Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with 2 Bronze Battle Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Battle Star, 3 Over Seas Bars, Army of Occupation Medal Japan, and Good Conduct Medal.

He is survived by five children, John Vancil, Carol Nelson, Tim Vancil, Sam Vancil, and Lenny Vancil all of Colorado; one brother, Doran Vancil of Dexter, Mo.

Services will be conducted by the Rev. David Craig of Sikeston, Mo. with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Mo. in charge of arrangements.
