Janice Gay Powell

Janice Gay Powell, daughter of the late Jesse Worker and Lucille Horseman Worker, was born in St. Louis, Mo., on Feb. 15, 1939, and died Feb. 12, 2012, at the age of 72.

Mrs. Powell had a BS from Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo., and a masters degree from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Ark. She taught school one year in the Fayette School system and one year in the Hazelwood School system and spent 26 years in the Malden School system before retiring in 1995.

On Jan. 23, 1960, she married Sam Powell. He survives at their home in Malden. Also surviving are one son, Sam Powell, Jr. and spouse, Elke, of Dexter; one grandson, Andrew Goessling; and two granddaughters, Caroline Goessling and Emma Powell, all of Dexter. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lisa Powell Goessling.

Mrs. Powell was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church in Malden, and she enjoyed flying and was a licenced private pilot.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, from noon to 2 p.m. until time of service at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden, with Rev. Michael Woods and Bill Hampton officiating.

Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetary in Malden, Mo.

Memorials may be made to Malden First United Methodist Church or Dexter First United Methodist Church. Bradshaw Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
