Charles Cantrell, son of the late Howard Leamon Cantrell and Nora Gribble Cantrell Powell, was born on Jan.14, 1956 in Conran, Mo., and died Feb. 24, 2012 at the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo., at the age of 56.

Mr. Cantrell was a veteran of the United States Marines and was a resident of Dexter.

On Aug. 6, 1990 he was united in marriage to Cheryl Lynn Mays, in Dexter, Mo. Mrs. Cantrell survives of the home in Dexter.

Besides his wife, other survivors include four sons, Parker Kilby of Jacksonville, Ark., Kyle Logan Cantrell, Robert Coty Cantrell, and Phillip Lee Cantrell all of Dexter; by one daughter, Rose Kilby of Jacksonville, Ark.; two step-sons, Kevin Scott Mann of Jonesboro, Ark., and William Dewey Mann of Yellville, Ark.; by one daughter-in-law, Candice Cantrell of Dexter; one brother, Willie Powell of Puxico; by seven sisters, Mary Jo Stearns of Hartford, Mich., Norma Lee Smith of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Treva Ann Lee of St. Charles, Mo., Jonnie Mae Maddox of Puxico, Mo., Patricia Freed of Dudley, Mo., Barbara Sue Case and Angela Mays both of Dexter; also by one granddaughter, Patricia Kilby.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Lottie Phillips.

Visitation will be at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from noon until 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, 2012. Funeral services will then be conducted on Monday at 2 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter with Rev. Jonia Ray Smith Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo., with full military honors.
