Samuel G. Fisher, 80, of Advance, died March 19, 2012, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo. He was born Oct. 12, 1931, in Lodge, Va., the son of Samuel and Mabel Sebra Fisher, Sr.
Sam opened Sam's Restaurant in Advance in 1980. He and his family operated the restaurant for over 30 years.
Sam was a member of the Advance United Methodist Church. He served as an Advance City Alderman for eight years. He was active in the Republican party, a veteran of the U.S. Navy and an avid golfer.
Sam and Joyce Rhodes were united in marriage on July 4, 1953, in Washington, D.C. She preceded him in death on Oct. 3, 2000.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis W. Fisher of Littleton, Co., and Russell G. Fisher of Double Oak, Texas; two daughters, Denise O'Hare of Advance and Sandy Wright of Machinistville, Texas; two sisters, Violet Sweigart of Chester, Pa., and Deloris Smith of Haynesville, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 22, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the chapel, with Rev. Jerry Willer officiating.
Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Advance with full military rites.
