Patrick Ray Merick, son of Harold Merick and the late Joyce Ray, was born on Jan.14, 1964, in Tracy, Ca., and died at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo., on April 3, 2012, at the age of 48.

Mr. Merick had lived Bloomfield most of his life. He retired from the U. S. Air Force in 1992. He was a decorated Sergeant and was awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Humanitarian Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Air Force Training Ribbon. He also served in the United States National Guard and was a farmer.

Surviving is one son, Matthew Merick of Bloomfield; his father and stepmother, Harold and Brenda Merick of Bloomfield; one brother, Randy Merick of Wappapello; a sister, Sandra Campbell of Dexter; and his special friend, Diann Brotherton of Bloomfield. Other relatives and many friends also survive.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. on Thursday April 5, 2012, at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday April 6, 2012, at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Kenneth Lambert officiating. Interment will be in the Bloomfield Cemetery in Bloomfield.
