James Ervin Fortner died April 15, 2012, at Kindred Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was born on Nov. 5, 1932, in Eupora, Miss., to Lonnie E. and Lydia McCain Fortner.
James was a retired banker and a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War.
James and Dixie Samples were united in marriage on Sept. 3, 1962, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Advance, Mo. She preceded him in death on Jan. 26, 1997.
Survivors include one son, Mark Fortner of San Diego, Calif.; one daughter, Traci Murrie of Richmond, Texas; two brothers, Elmer Fortner of Bloomfield, Mo., and Ernest Fortner of Advance, Mo.; two sisters, Marie Ellis of Harrisburg, Ill., and Mamie Hesselbein of Tulsa, Okla; and one grandson, Kyle Thomas Sitka.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one brother, Leon Fortner.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 19, 2012, from 1-2 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance. Services will be held at 2 p.m. at the chapel with Fr. Randy Tochtrop officiating. Burial will follow at Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.
