One is dead and another in custody following a shooting near Catron in Stoddard County early Saturday morning.

Stoddard County Sheriff Carl Hefner reports the shooting happened shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday, May 5.

The victim, 20-year-old Patrick Goforth, reportedly died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

According to the probable cause affidavit on file, Goforth was taken to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston by "personal conveyance." He was later pronounced dead by an emergency room physician.

Charles C. Goforth, 40, of Catron, father of the victim, was arrested and charged with the Class A felony of second degree murder and the unclassified felony of armed criminal action.

The shooting occurred at the elder Goforth's home.

Hefner said the Major Case Squad was activated early Saturday morning and used the Bernie Police Department as a command center.

His bond has been set at $750,000 cash-only and he remains in the Stoddard County Jail.

Goforth will be arraigned before Judge Joe Z. Satterfield on Thursday, May 10.

His own father! What a "father"! May he rot in prison the rest of his life with NO parole!

Maybe you could wait for facts before rushing to judgement....but that would require to much brain power.

Dishonoring Sunday, the Lord's Day, and the withholding of New Testament teaching from our schools is devastating society. Withholding,"Love thy neighbor as thyself" and "Honor thy father and mother", "Thou shall not kill", "Thou shalt not steal" will make criminal governments and society.

American people must return to God and Christ and to putting children first before the evils of men and women such as alcohol and greed.

How could anybody's feeling be hurt by the above and not be hurt at the death of somebody because somebody did not live up to them?

The American people know its time to put the Bible back in schools and to remove alcohol and gambling from our towns. Not to do so is to turn a child toward criminal activity and death.

If you dilly and dally, every street will become a dark alley and few children will know for certain who their father is.

Is this something parents want over their towns and children?
