She was born on Dec. 25, 1957, in Cape Girar-deau, Mo., the daughter of James D. and Louella (Beaird) Smith.
Joy was a graduate of Washburn University. She was employed as a CPA for Cummins & Coffman CPA, and she was co-owner of the Qdoba Mexican Grill in Topeka, Kan.
She enjoyed playing golf, skiing, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.
Joy married Charles "Chuck" Stratman on June 1, 1979, in Dexter, Mo., and he survives.
Other survivors include four sons, Brian (Mary), Blaine (Cammi), Daniel, and Andrew; five grandchildren, Madison, Leah, Katie, Silas, and Charlie; her father and step-mother, James D. and Amanda Smith; and four siblings, Dan Smith, Beverly Kupinski, Teresa Eskew, and Susan Melton.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Louella Smith.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Topeka.
Visitation is 6--8 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at the Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 Wanamaker Rd., Topeka, Kan.
