Friday, May 25, 2012

John Howard Sont-heimer, 87, died on May 23, 2012. He was a native of St. Joseph, Mo., and a resident of Schrie-ver, La., before his death. He was the founder and owner of SONOCO-Sont-heimer Offshore/Catering Company.

Mr. Sontheimer is survived by his wife, Diane Wilson Sontheimer; three sons, Dr. Richard Sontheimer and wife, Liz, of Cottonwood Heights, Utah, Kent V. Sontheimer and wife, Marietta, and John Eric Sontheimer, all of Houma, La.; one daughter, Nikki S. Amberg and husband, Fred, of Tempe, Ariz.; nine grandchildren, Sophia, Andrew, and Samuel Sontheimer, Tyler, Diane, and Jessica Amberg, Dr. C.J. Sontheimer, Kristin Collins, and Erin Maden; and four great-grandchildren, Sabrina and John Collins and Troy and Colt Masden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Goley and Mary Lou Sollars Sontheimer; two brothers, Goley D. and Harold Sontheimer; and three sisters, Anita Reinert, Bessie Habert, and Dottie Herbold.

A loving husband and dedicated father and grandfather, Mr. John was one of Houma's true gentlemen who never met anyone he didn't call a friend. He spent his life helping others, not because he had to, but because he wanted to. He touched many lives during his tenure here on earth, and his legacy will be the lessons in selflessness he taught by how he lived his life and treated others.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 26, 2012, from 9 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Bernadette Soubirous Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in the St. Francis de Sales Cemetery #2.

Chauvin Funeral Home, Inc., Houma, La., is in charge of all arrangements.
