Charles Edward Powers, Sr., son of the late Virgil Powers and Minnie Wiggs Powers, was born April 29, 1940, in Augusta, Ark., and died June 16, 2012 in Wappapello, Mo., at the age of 72.

Charles was a retired Missouri State Highway Trooper in Troop E. He later worked for Holloway Distributors in Puxico, Mo. He was a 32nd degree Mason, Shriner, and a member of the Wappapello Eagles. He graduated from Steele High School Class of 1961.

Charles is survived by three sons, Chuck Powers of Dexter, Mo., James Powers of Advance, Mo., and John Powers of Wappapello, Mo.; two daughters, Jamie Powers DeVaughn of Puxico, Mo., and Dawn Powers Casey of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; two brothers, Frank Powers of Westville, Okla., and Steve Powers of Steele, Mo.; two sisters, Beth Johnson of Stillwater, Okla., and Karen Parmes of Steele, Mo. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Curt DeVaughn, Lynsea Casey, Amy DeVaughn, Lauren Powers, Zack Casey, Caroline Powers, Coby Powers, Sydney Casey, Jake DeVaughn, Connor Casey, Kaitlynn Powers, Nash Powers, and baby J.R. Powers on the way. He was preceeded in death by his parents, one brother, Jimmy Powers and two sisters, Bonnie Powers and Betty Mathis.

Visitation will be June 19, 2012, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home in Steele, Mo. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. at the Powell Funeral Home in Steele, Mo., with Rev. Aaron Lingle officiating.

Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at the Little Brushy Cemetery in Wappapello, Mo. Powell Funeral Home of Steele, Mo., is in charge of all arrangements.
