Sophia E. Deason, daughter of the late Oscar and Mary Elizabeth Jarrell Masterson, was born near Dexter, Mo., on March 29, 1917, and died at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter on July 11, 2012, at the age of 95.
Mrs. Deason had lived in Dexter all of her life. She had attended the New Bethel General Baptist Church in Dexter and had worked for over 30 years at Elders Manufacturing Company.
On July 3, 1937, she was married to Frank Leslie Deason in Dexter. He preceded her in death on Oct. 6, 1976.
Surviving is one grandson and wife, Michael and Zina Mitchell of Dexter; one granddaughter, Sharon Darby of Dexter; four great-grandchildren, Shaun Phillips and Christopher Phillips, both of Bloomfield, Tiffany Mitchell and Brandon Mitchell, both of Dexter; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister and husband, Mary and Tom Fairchild of Dexter; one sister-in-law and husband, Carolyn and William Tucker of Dexter. Many nieces, nephews, other family and friends also survive her.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Martha Elizabeth Mitchell on Jan. 7, 2007; a son-in-law, C. W. Mitchell, three brothers, James, Louis, and Adam Masterson; four sisters, Nancy and Melissa Masterson, Mae Ridenour, and Ella Casey.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 12, 2012, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 13, 2012, at 11a.m. at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Dean Williams of Dexter officiating.
Interment will be in the Sadlers Chapel Cemetery near Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
