Delmer R. Underwood, son of the late Roy and Josie Quick Underwood, was born on June 16, 1925, in Bloom-field, Mo. and died at the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girar-deau, Mo. on Aug. 2,

2012, at the age of 87.

Delmer had lived in Bloomfield all of his life and was a former mayor. He and his brother had owned and operated the Underwood Service Station in Bloomfield for 36 years. He was a combat veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during WWII with the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles Paratrooper Division. He was also a member of the Bloomfield Masonic Lodge 153 AF & AM. the Scottish Rite, and a lifetime member of the Amvets.

On July 6, 1948, he married Imogene Wilkison in Piggott, Ark.

Surviving are his wife, Imogene Underwood of Bloomfield, Mo.; two grandchildren, Scott Underwood of Florida and Erin Hendershot of Indiana; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Elmer Underwood, Steve

Underwood and John Underwood, all of Bloomfield, Mo.; and one sister, Geneva Grim of Dexter, Mo. Other relatives and friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by one son, Delmer Dale Underwood on Nov. 13, 2006.

Visitation will take place on Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, after 11 a.m. at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 6, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Dan Sitze of Dexter officiating.

Interment will take place in the Bloomfield Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo. with full military honors. Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
