Dexter's Lady Bearcats volleyball team continues to fight through adversity.

Coach Carmen Morgan watched starter Jessica Lindsey go down with an ankle injury early in game one of the Dig for Life Challenge tournament in Cape Girardeau this past weekend, but the team pulled together to still make it to the semifinals of the Gold Bracket. Monday night her team battled through the loss of players to pick up a 25-9, 25-21 win over Bloomfield at the Bearcat Event Center.

"I felt good about how we pulled together at the SEMO tournament," Morgan said after her team picked up its second SCAA win of the season. "We played hard. We pulled together. I couldn't have never have ask them to play any harder. They pulled together as a team and worked hard. (I'm)Very proud of them.

Dexter's Hannah Noe makes a diving effort for a dig during Monday's SCAA clash at the Bearcat Event Center. Dexter took the match, 25-9, 25-21.

"Tonight (Monday) we came out and played one game and sluffed off the other. We lost our intensity. We're working on that. Trying to come out focused for two game. That's been our MO so far.

"We did some good things," she continued. "We did some bad things. But the main thing with tonight's game is we can come out and jump on someone the first game. But you can't go back out and not jump right back on them the second game.

Dexter looked impressive in Game 1, dominating all phases of the game against Bloomfield. In Game 2, Bloomfield jumped out to a 5-1 lead before Dexter regrouped and eventually took the lead on a 5-0 run that turned a 12-9 deficit into a 14-12 advantage they never relinquished.

Bloomfield did keep it close until Dexter closed out the match on a 3-0 run for the 25-21 decision.

"There are moments when they work really well as a team and pull together," Bloomfield coach Starla Pulley said after the match. "We have a young team, but so does Dexter. We're just trying to get them honed in to work together and play in sync.

"From where we started the season we're slowing starting to grow," Pulley added. "I think by county (tournament) and districts we'll be where we need to be."

Dexter improved to 13-6 overall and 2-0 in SCAA play. Bloomfield, which made it to the semifinals of the Silver bracket of the Dig fore Life Challenge tournament, Dexter slipped to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in league play.

The Lady Bearcats made it a sweep on the night taking the junior varsity match, 25-20, 25-15.

Dexter will be back in action tonight when they take to the road for a match against Scott City.
