Pierce Burton, Jr., son of the late Pierce Burton, Sr. and Murl Margaret Carter Burton, was born in Knoxville, Ark., on May 31, 1927, and died at the Ozark Mountain Healthcare Facility in Crane, Mo., on Oct. 6, 2012, at the age of 85.

He lived most of his life in the Southeast Missouri area before moving to Crane several years ago. He was of the Pentecostal faith and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was married to Nina Laree Carney on Nov. 10, 1978. She preceded him in death on Jan. 23, 1999.

Surviving are two sons, Ken Burton of Saltillo, Miss., and Paul Burton of Salt Lake City, Utah; three daughters, Kay Fitzgerel of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Pam F. Davis and Terri Matlock, both of Galena, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grand-children; and one sister, Jewell Cox of Paducah, Ky.

He was preceded in death by one son, John Craig Burton; one brother, Harold Burton; and one sister, Pauline Pixley.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter, Mo.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Mo. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. at the Dexter Cemetery. Interment will follow with full military honors. Watkins and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
